Sporting CP Eye Nestory Irankunda as Pedro Gonçalves Exit Looms

Sporting CP are monitoring Australian winger Nestory Irankunda as they look to strengthen the left side of their attack ahead of the new season. The 20-year-old Watford forward is among the players on Sporting's shortlist as the club prepares for significant changes in its attacking department.

The Portuguese champions are expected to lose Pedro Gonçalves, making the recruitment of a left-sided attacker a priority. Faye is also likely to leave the club, while Jesse Derry has arrived on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season to provide additional depth.

Irankunda, who represented Australia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and scored against Turkey in the group stage, has impressed with his pace, dribbling ability and versatility. He is capable of playing on either wing, as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker, making him an attractive option for Sporting's tactical setup.

The Australian international made 42 appearances for Watford in the Championship last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Standing at 1.75 metres and weighing 75 kilograms, Irankunda is regarded as one of Australia's brightest young talents.

Although no formal negotiations have been confirmed, Sporting continue to assess the winger as they reshape their squad for the upcoming campaign.
