Sporting make offer for Doumbia as Benfica and Brentford join race

Sporting have already made a concrete offer for Issa Doumbia, a 22-year-old midfielder from Venezia, while Benfica and Brentford have also entered the race for the highly rated player. The Portuguese club has presented a five-year contract proposal, valid until June 2031, which has impressed the player and aligns with his ambitions.

While both Sporting and Benfica are in talks with Venezia, only Sporting have so far approached the player directly. Benfica are expected to accelerate negotiations soon, especially after Venezia secured promotion to Serie A, allowing the Italian club to focus more closely on transfer dealings.

Doumbia, a key figure in Venezia’s successful campaign, has made 37 appearances this season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. His performances have attracted attention not only from Portugal but also from England, where Brentford are closely monitoring his situation. The Premier League side, currently fighting for European qualification, could pose serious competition.

Sporting are preparing for the potential departures of Morten Hjulmand and Hidemasa Morita, making Doumbia a long-term target. The player is reportedly very interested in Sporting’s project, though Benfica’s late move ensures a strong rivalry for his signature. Both Portuguese giants offer the chance to compete for titles and European football, with Champions League qualification still at stake.

Any deal for Doumbia is expected to exceed €15 million, and with multiple clubs involved, the transfer fee could rise significantly.
