Sporting CP are closely monitoring Taichi Fukui as the club prepares for a major overhaul in midfield ahead of next season. The 21-year-old Japanese midfielder has impressed at F.C. Arouca, where he recorded 3 goals and 5 assists in 34 appearances.
Fukui, capable of playing both as a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box No. 8, has attracted attention thanks to his energy, tactical intelligence, and ability to arrive in attacking areas. Sporting’s scouting department reportedly sees him as a strong option to reinforce the squad amid expected departures and uncertainty surrounding several midfield players.
The possible exits of Hidemasa Morita and Morten Hjulmand, combined with injury concerns involving João Simões, could accelerate Sporting’s move for the Japanese talent.
Before shining in Portugal, Fukui developed at Sagan Tosu and earned a transfer to FC Bayern Munich in 2023. After spells with Portimonense SC and Arouca, the midfielder has emerged as one of the standout young players in the Portuguese league.
Arouca reportedly value Fukui between €5 million and €8 million after making his move permanent earlier this season.,
