Portugal head coach Roberto MartÃnez will officially announce the national team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this Tuesday at the Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras. Ahead of the announcement, A BOLA’s editorial team carried out the same exercise and selected its own 26-man squad for the tournament.
Portugal are expected to make only a few surprises in the final list. Before the World Cup begins, the national team will play two friendly matches: against Chile on June 6 at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras and against Nigeria on June 10 at the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Stadium in Leiria.
Twelve players received unanimous support from A BOLA journalists, including Diogo Costa, João Cancelo, Nuno Mendes, Rúben Dias, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Vitinha and Rafael Leão. Gonçalo Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo each missed out on one vote, while Matheus Nunes and João Félix were left out by two editors.
The closest competition for the remaining spots involved Paulinho, Mateus Fernandes, Ricardo Horta, Pedro Gonçalves, Rodrigo Mora, Nélson Semedo and António Silva. In the end, Paulinho and Mateus Fernandes secured the final places in A BOLA’s selected squad.
