Miguel Oliveira was taken to hospital after a heavy crash during the World Superbike round in Hungary, ending his race weekend early.
The Portuguese rider was initially assessed at the circuit medical centre, where doctors diagnosed a concussion and a left shoulder injury. He was later transferred to a nearby hospital for further examinations.
The accident happened on the opening lap of the Superpole race. Oliveira, who was running in provisional podium positions, was caught in a chain reaction at Turn 6 after contact between Sam Lowes and Andrea Locatelli at the exit of the previous corner. Locatelli’s bike was forced into Oliveira’s machine, causing a violent crash that led to a red flag.
Despite the severity of the incident, Oliveira remained conscious and responsive, according to team sources. However, he has been ruled out of the second race of the day.
The rider had shown strong pace earlier in the weekend, having secured a podium finish on Saturday before the crash brought an abrupt end to his participation in the Hungarian round.
