Mbappé and Arbeloa Clash Over “Fourth Forward” Claim After Real Madrid Win

Kylian Mbappé sparked controversy after claiming that coach Álvaro Arbeloa had described him as the “fourth forward” in the squad, a statement that was later firmly denied by the Real Madrid staff.

The forward, speaking after Real Madrid CF’s victory over Real Oviedo, used the interview to reflect on what he described as a “painful” season, his recovery from a hamstring injury, and criticism from fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Mbappé explained that he had been fit to start the match but accepted the coach’s decision not to include him in the starting XI, referencing what he believed was his squad status.

“I am the fourth forward in the squad for the coach,” Mbappé said, adding that he accepts limited playing time and remains focused on contributing whenever called upon.

However, Arbeloa quickly contradicted the French star’s interpretation, insisting no such statement had ever been made.

“I wish I had four forwards. I don’t have four forwards and I never told Mbappé that,” Arbeloa clarified. “He must have misunderstood me. I cannot explain what he thinks he heard.”

The incident added tension to an already difficult season for Real Madrid, which Mbappé himself described as disappointing due to the club’s lack of trophies.

“We didn’t win titles. That hurts because we had an idea, a structure, and we lost it,” he said. “At Real Madrid, you always have to win.”

Mbappé also addressed criticism over a recent trip to Italy during his injury recovery, stating that it had been authorized by the club and was not an isolated case among teammates.

Despite frustrations, the French striker insisted he maintains a good relationship with the coaching staff and remains committed to the team.

“I’m here to play and to defend the club in the best way possible,” he concluded.
