SL Benfica and FC Porto are reportedly among several European giants closely monitoring Juan Riquelme Angulo, the highly rated young striker from Independiente del Valle.
According to reports in Spain, clubs including FC Barcelona and Manchester United FC are also following the development of the 18-year-old forward, who has rapidly emerged as one of South America’s most exciting attacking prospects.
Despite having played only 10 matches for Independiente del Valle’s senior side, Angulo has already scored two goals and generated significant attention thanks to his combination of physical power and technical quality.
Standing at 1.93 meters tall, the Ecuadorian has earned comparisons to Erling Haaland in his home country. However, beyond his imposing physique, scouts are particularly impressed by his mobility, pace, and ability to contribute to build-up play from deeper areas rather than functioning solely as a traditional penalty-box striker.
Angulo has also represented Ecuador at under-17 level and recently received an emergency call-up to the senior national team from coach Sebastián Beccacece following injuries to other forwards. Although he did not make his debut, the call-up significantly boosted his international profile.
His blend of athleticism, technical skill, and tactical versatility has made him one of the standout talents of his generation, with several major European clubs now positioning themselves to potentially secure his signature in the near future.
For Benfica and Porto, the interest fits a long-standing strategy of identifying elite South American talent early before market values rise dramatically.
