Real Madrid are behind on everything – it's unforgivable mismanagement

Santi Cañizares criticises the club over the Vinícius Jr. contract situation

The way Real Madrid are handling Vinícius Jr.'s contract renewal has come under increasing scrutiny, with former goalkeeper Santi Cañizares becoming the latest figure to criticise the club.

Although the FIFA Club World Cup ended more than a week ago, the Brazilian forward's future remains uncertain despite his current contract running until June 2027.

There are growing concerns that the situation could eventually lead to Vinícius leaving as a free agent, a scenario that many see as a serious failure in the club's management.

"The more noise there is around a player, the less likely it is that he will leave," Cañizares said on Cadena COPE's Tiempo de Juego programme.

"Real Madrid are behind on everything. If it's true that they don't have a signed agreement, then Real Madrid have an obligation to sell him. You cannot afford to lose €100 million or more by allowing a player to run down his contract. I genuinely believe that could happen. It's unforgivable mismanagement," he added.
