Salah worried about Liverpool dressing room: “If it doesn’t happen, it will be difficult”

Mohamed Salah has expressed concerns about Liverpool’s dressing room culture as he prepares to leave Anfield at the end of the season after nine years at the club.

Despite heavy investment of more than €500 million last summer, Liverpool — champions in 2024/25 — currently sit fourth in the Premier League with only three matches remaining, and Salah believes mentality could be becoming an issue within the squad.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Egyptian forward reflected on the standards he tried to set during his time at the club. “When I arrived, nobody really did anything special before training,” he explained.

“I always made sure to prepare before and after training sessions. The others followed my example. I’m happy I was here when the new signings arrived last summer. They saw me going to the gym before training and started doing the same. I’m very proud of that,” he added.

Salah also revealed that he had spoken directly with club officials about the importance of leadership after his departure. “I told the directors that the club needs a new role model here. There needs to be someone who arrives early at the training ground and goes to the gym first. If that doesn’t happen, it will be difficult for the club. It’s very important to keep standards extremely high.”

The Egyptian international had already shared similar thoughts in a recent interview with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports. “Everyone had the same goal. If you didn’t do things properly, everyone would call you out. That happened many times over the last 10 years, and I hope it doesn’t change, even with so many new players arriving. I sincerely hope the boys stay united,” he said.
