Ricardo Costa: “I Think We Are Undisputed Three-Time Champions”

Sporting secured their third consecutive national title after defeating FC Porto, claiming the 22nd league crown in the club’s history. Head coach Ricardo Costa expressed immense satisfaction but emphasized that the season is not over yet.

“I would say many factors contributed to our victory. First, André Kristensen had a fantastic performance. We defended well, conceding only 12 goals in the first half, and we tried to surprise Porto with a seven-against-six formation. We dominated the game from start to finish, and the outcome became another triumph,” Costa said.

“We are very happy, but I won’t lie, our minds are on Wednesday’s game. Still, this season has been one of Sporting’s best in history—not just in titles. The maturity and style of play have been overwhelming. We won every league game, and I think we are undisputed winners of this three-peat,” the former international added.

Regarding the Champions League and the dream of reaching the Final Four, with only Aalborg standing in the way after a 31-31 first-leg draw, Costa said: “It’s time to realize our dreams.”

He also praised his players, staff, directors, and fans: “Congratulations to all involved for believing in this project. Our supporters have always been with us, filling the arena twice this week. The most important thing is that our fans leave with full hearts and identify with us. And I think we achieved that. Congratulations to everyone, congratulations to Sporting fans for the championship.”
