Dorgu Responds to Amorim’s Criticism: “It Hit Me a Bit”

Manchester United full-back Patrick Dorgu addressed comments made by former coach Ruben Amorim earlier this season, saying the words affected him but that he tried to respond positively on the pitch. Amorim had criticized Dorgu’s decision-making under pressure, contrasting his club performances with his confident displays for the Danish national team.

“It hit me a bit when Amorim said that because when a coach speaks negatively about you… it always affects you,” Dorgu told The Telegraph. “I accepted it the best I could and tried to improve my game. Even before he was dismissed, in the last few matches, I started finding my rhythm as players went to the CAN. I had a good moment and tried to carry that confidence into training with Fletcher and Carrick. I just tried to play with more confidence and express myself on the field.”

The 21-year-old, formerly of Lecce, also questioned Amorim’s choice of words. “I don’t think that was the word he meant, ‘anxious’. It didn’t feel like that. The team just wasn’t in a good moment, and he said it at the wrong time, because I was performing well for the national team. I don’t understand how I can play well in one team and poorly in another, and suddenly be called anxious,” Dorgu added.
