Regular season ends as Benfica and Sporting deliver, play-off picture and relegation decided

The regular season came to a close with both Benfica and Sporting finishing strongly away from home, while a dramatic finale in Famalicão decided the battle for survival.

Benfica, who had already secured top spot, wrapped up the phase with a 5–3 win against Torreense. An early goal set the tone, and the visitors quickly built a comfortable lead. By halftime, the game was largely under control, with Benfica showing attacking efficiency and composure.

The second half brought a reaction from Torreense, who managed to reduce the deficit and add some late tension. Still, Benfica maintained enough control to see out the win and finish with 61 points. They will now face Elétrico in the first round of the play-offs.

Sporting also ended on a high, beating Leões de Porto Salvo 5–2. A strong start gave them an early cushion, and despite moments of resistance from the home side, Sporting’s quality proved decisive. Key players stepped up again in the second half to secure a convincing victory. The Lisbon side will meet Torreense in the quarter-finals.

Play-off matchups:
Benfica (1st) vs Elétrico (8th)
Sporting (2nd) vs Torreense (7th)
Leões de Porto Salvo (3rd) vs Ferreira do Zêzere (6th)
SC Braga (4th) vs Rio Ave (5th)

At the other end of the table, the most dramatic moment of the day came in Famalicão. The home side secured survival in remarkable fashion. After going behind in the first half, they fought back after the break but were pushed to the limit.

A missed penalty by Fundão proved crucial, and moments later the equalizer arrived. Late drama followed, including another saved penalty, before a last-gasp goal , just 30 seconds from time, sparked wild celebrations and ensured Famalicão’s place in the top division.

Their survival came at the expense of Quinta dos Lombos, who were relegated after a narrow defeat to Rio Ave. With head-to-head results as the tiebreaker, Famalicão edged ahead. Caxinas also dropped down after a heavy loss, confirming the two relegation spots.
