Tondela head coach Gonçalo Feio made it clear his side cannot afford any slip-ups as they prepare for a crucial showdown against Casa Pia, stressing that only a win will keep their survival hopes alive.
Following a dramatic late comeback to secure a draw against Sporting in the previous round, Tondela arrive with renewed belief. Still, Feio insists that result means little if it isn’t backed up immediately.
“The match at Alvalade is already in the past because it won’t give us points now. What we need is three points,” he said, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The coach acknowledged the boost in confidence from the previous performance but emphasized focus and consistency as key factors going forward. “I see a team that understands how important this game is. There’s no need to hide from reality , we know the position we’re in.”
Feio expects a tough and tactical encounter, noting that Casa Pia may be comfortable with more than one possible outcome, while Tondela have only one objective. “For us, only one result matters. It will be a game decided by details, by character.”
He also dismissed any potential excuses related to fatigue or scheduling, reinforcing a mentality of responsibility within the squad. “There are no excuses. We have to be ready. This is a final for us.”
Rather than demanding perfection, Feio called for a complete and committed performance. “There are no perfect games, but we need to be a complete team, with the right intensity, the right decisions, and without hiding from the moment.”
