The 2026 Moçambola season is set to begin on Saturday, 2 May, according to the Mozambican Football League (LMF), which adjusted the opening date from the initially scheduled 1 May. The opening match will see Associação Desportiva de Vilankulo face Ferroviário de Lichinga.
The first round continues on Sunday, highlighted by a marquee fixture between Costa do Sol and the returning Maxaquene, which closes the opening weekend.
Despite the confirmed kickoff, the championship begins under a cloud of uncertainty. Concerns remain over financial guarantees needed to ensure the competition runs smoothly throughout the season, as well as the absence of a fully approved competition regulation, a structured calendar, and full consensus among participating clubs on key organisational matters.
Sunday’s fixtures also include Chingale de Tete vs União Desportiva do Songo, Ferroviário de Nampula vs Ferroviário de Nacala, Baía de Pemba vs Associação Desportiva de Pemba, Ferroviário da Beira vs Liga Desportiva de Sofala, and Ferroviário de Maputo vs Black Bulls.
