Thrilling 3–3 draw keeps pressure on City and strengthens Arsenal’s position in the title race
Manchester City missed a crucial opportunity in the title race after being held to a dramatic 3–3 draw by Everton in the 35th round of the Premier League. The result ultimately plays in favor of league leaders Arsenal, who could extend their advantage at the top.
Despite coming into the match under pressure, City avoided defeat thanks to a moment of brilliance from Jeremy Doku, who helped secure the equalizer in a game full of twists and momentum shifts. However, the draw prevents City from closing the gap on first place.
Managed by Pep Guardiola, Manchester City entered the match knowing that only a win would keep their title hopes fully in their own hands. They now sit on 70 points, still behind Arsenal, who lead with 76, although City have a game in hand.
Everton, currently 11th with 47 points, showed resilience after back-to-back defeats. Playing at home, they challenged City throughout and came close to securing all three points, signaling improvement as the season nears its end.
Both teams dealt with key absences. City were without Rodri, Rúben Dias, and Joško Gvardiol, while Everton missed Jarrad Branthwaite and Beto. Even so, standout performances came from Erling Haaland and Jordan Pickford.
Historically, Manchester City have the edge, with 83 wins in 200 meetings compared to Everton’s 68, along with 49 draws. Notably, Everton have not beaten City in their last 18 encounters, with their most recent victory dating back to August 2021.
With this result, the title race remains open, but Arsenal’s position looks increasingly strong, leaving Manchester City with mounting pressure in the final stretch of the season.
