Swedish side Malmö have shown interest in Sporting CP winger Mauro Couto, making an approach for the 20-year-old during the January transfer window.
Couto, who is under contract until June 2027, has primarily featured for Sporting’s B team this season, making 29 appearances under João Gião. The young winger started 23 of those matches, contributing two goals and three assists in Liga Portugal 2.
Although Malmö’s enquiry did not progress into a formal offer, the player remains on the Swedish club’s radar. With their domestic league already underway, Malmö have since strengthened their squad, but Couto could become a target again in a future transfer window.
The Portuguese youngster joined Sporting from Paços de Ferreira ahead of the 2023/24 season, initially on loan before completing a permanent move. He has made two appearances for the first team, both last season , one in the league against Gil Vicente and another in the Portuguese Cup against Santa Clara.
Couto has also been involved in first-team squads this season under Rui Borges, earning call-ups for matches against Rio Ave, PSG, and Bodø/Glimt, although he remained an unused substitute on each occasion.
Sporting are reportedly open to negotiating a transfer should concrete offers arrive, with a potential fee expected to be in the region of €1–2 million.
