Iúri Leitão confirmed his status as one of the fastest men in the peloton with a commanding sprint victory on stage two of the Grande Prémio Anicolor, finishing in Costa Nova after 170 kilometres from Oiã.
As expected, the flat second half of the stage led to a bunch sprint, despite a few attempts to break the script earlier in the day. When it mattered most, Leitão executed perfectly. Launched inside the final 300 meters by his Caja Rural teammates, the Olympic Madison champion surged clear and held off Venezuela’s Leangel Liñarez, widely seen as his main rival for the finish.
“The sprint was chaotic, but the team did an incredible job,” Leitão said after the stage. “I followed the right wheel and timed my move exactly when I needed to.”
Behind the stage winner, the general classification remains tightly contested. Tiago Antunes retained the yellow jersey after a controlled day from his Efapel Cycling Team, but his lead is slim heading into the decisive final stage.
A breakaway of seven riders briefly threatened to shake things up midway through the stage, with some within seconds of the overall lead. However, the peloton, driven by teams with sprint ambitions , quickly reined them back in, restoring control ahead of the finale.
With just seconds separating Antunes from a large group of contenders, everything will be decided in the demanding final stage. The route, featuring multiple mountain climbs including the Serra do Caramulo, promises an aggressive battle for the overall title.
