Hjulmand Admits Torreense “Wanted It More” Than Sporting

Morten Hjulmand accepted responsibility for Sporting CP’s disappointing defeat against S.C.U. Torreense in the Portuguese Cup final, admitting that the opposition showed greater determination throughout the match.

Speaking after the 2-1 loss, the Sporting midfielder said the result was extremely painful and criticised the team’s body language, particularly after misplaced passes and missed opportunities. Hjulmand acknowledged that Sporting failed to perform at the standard expected of the club and stated that Torreense approached the game with greater maturity and efficiency.

The Danish international also expressed frustration at missing the chance to compete in the Super Cup, insisting that Sporting did not deserve to win based on their overall performance. Despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future, Hjulmand refused to discuss possible next steps, explaining that he first wants time to reflect on the season and speak with his family after the holidays.
