Nearly a year after his dramatic transfer, Viktor Gyökeres is now in the UEFA Champions League final with Arsenal and fighting for the Premier League title. His move from Sporting to Arsenal, completed on July 26, 2025, was worth €65.76 million upfront, with an additional €10.25 million in performance-related bonuses. So far, Sporting have already secured close to €70 million of a possible €76 million from the deal.
Despite missing pre-season due to the complications surrounding his transfer including refusing to train the Swedish striker initially struggled to find his rhythm. However, he has since hit top form, earning widespread praise and delivering strong performances that have directly benefited Sporting financially.
Out of the €10.25 million in bonuses, around €4 million have already been triggered. A key clause awards €1.25 million for every 20 matches in which Gyökeres plays at least 45 minutes, up to a maximum of €5 million. Having already surpassed 40 such appearances (currently at 42), Sporting have secured €2.5 million from this clause.
Another bonus is tied to goal contributions: for every 20 direct involvements (goals or assists), Arsenal pay €500,000, up to €1 million. Gyökeres has already reached this milestone, with 21 goals and four assists so far.
Additionally, Sporting earned €1 million from Arsenal’s qualification for the 2026/2027 Champions League, with a potential maximum of €4 million linked to this objective.
In total, Gyökeres has already generated €69.76 million for Sporting, combining the initial transfer fee and bonuses. While winning the Champions League does not trigger additional payments, Arsenal’s success and the player’s performances continue to increase the overall value of the deal.
