After holding a 3-1 series advantage, the Boston Celtics suffered three consecutive losses (97-113, 93-106, and now a nine-point defeat) to end their season. Jayson Tatum’s absence due to injury was felt throughout the series. Philadelphia became just the 12th team in NBA history to advance after trailing 3-1.
Joel Embiid starred with 34 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, while Tyrese Maxey added 30 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Rookie V.J. Edgecombe also impressed with 23 points and six rebounds. For Boston, Jaylen Brown scored 33 points, Derrick White 26, and Portuguese international Neemias Queta added 17 points, 12 rebounds, and an assist in nearly 33 minutes off the bench.
Philadelphia dominated early with a 30-15 first quarter, but Boston rallied to lead in the second. The 76ers went into halftime ahead 55-50 and extended the lead to +18 by the end of the third quarter. Boston kept fighting, narrowing the gap several times, but Maxey’s four consecutive points sealed the game at 103-98, securing Philadelphia’s victory.
The 76ers will face the winner of the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Toronto Raptors Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
