SC Braga faces a defining moment this Thursday as they travel to Germany to take on SC Freiburg in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-final. After a 2-1 win in the first leg, the Portuguese side is just one step away from reaching only the second European final in its history.
Midfielder Rodrigo Zalazar, affectionately known as “El Osito” (the little bear), is not hiding the ambition within the squad. Speaking to UEFA, he admitted that lifting the trophy would be a fair reward for the club’s growth. “We will give everything to reach the final. Winning the competition would be a dream and a deserved reward for a club that has worked hard to be among the best,” he said.
Zalazar, who has contributed 23 goals and eight assists this season, highlighted the importance of the competition in his career. “It’s a tournament I’ve followed since I was young. Playing in the Europa League is a dream come true.”
Beyond football, the Uruguayan emphasized the influence of his father, José Luis Zalazar, a former player known as “El Oso.” The nickname lives on through Rodrigo, who proudly carries both the family legacy and the iconic number 10 shirt, once worn by his father.
Inspired by legends like Diego Forlán and Lionel Messi, as well as rising star Lamine Yamal, Zalazar embraces the responsibility that comes with the number. Now, he hopes to lead Braga one step closer to history.
