SL Benfica secured their third consecutive Portuguese Women’s Basketball League title after defeating Quinta dos Lombos 77-67 in the decisive fifth game of the playoff final series.
The victory sealed a 3-2 triumph in the finals for Benfica, who claimed their fifth national championship overall and continued a dominant era in Portuguese women’s basketball, having now won five league titles in the last six seasons.
The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams exchanging momentum early in the game. A three-pointer from Emanuely de Oliveira gave Benfica a brief advantage before Milica Ivanovic responded for Quinta dos Lombos to level the score. Benfica closed the first period narrowly ahead, 18-16.
The second quarter proved decisive as Benfica completely took control of the game. Strong defensive pressure, dominance on the boards, and efficient shooting allowed the Eagles to build a commanding lead. Maria João Bettencourt played a crucial role, helping Benfica open a 16-point advantage by halftime at 42-26.
Benfica continued to dominate after the break, extending the margin to 23 points midway through the third quarter. Although Quinta dos Lombos mounted an impressive comeback attempt in the final period, reducing the deficit to eight points, Benfica responded calmly under pressure.
A crucial three-pointer from Maria João Bettencourt, followed by another key basket from Inês Faustino, restored Benfica’s control and effectively secured the championship in the closing minutes.
Bettencourt delivered one of the standout performances of the final, finishing with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists as Benfica celebrated another historic title.
