Farioli urges calm approach as Porto aim to overturn deficit against Sporting

FC Porto head coach Francesco Farioli says his team will not “attack like crazy” as they look to overturn a 1- 0 deficit against Sporting in the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final at the Estádio do Dragão.

Speaking ahead of the decisive clash, Farioli stressed the importance of staying composed and avoiding the “trap” set by a strong Sporting side known for its counter-attacking threat. Despite the disadvantage from the first leg, he remains confident that Porto can turn things around, especially with the backing of their home crowd.

“We believe we can perform at the highest level and change the result,” he said, highlighting the team’s spirit and preparation. He also made it clear that external noise or comments will not influence his squad, insisting they are fully focused on their own game.

Farioli confirmed that Martim Fernandes is fit to return, while Zaidu remains sidelined. He also praised the strong connection between the team and the fans, calling it a key factor in big matches like this.

While acknowledging Sporting’s quality, Farioli emphasized that this is a “unique game” with a place in the final at stake. He expects a balanced performance from his side, aggressive when needed, but patient and tactically disciplined.

“We don’t need revenge or extra motivation,” he added. “We just need to be ourselves and give everything on the pitch.”
