Benfica have already outlined their transfer strategy for the 2026/27 season, focusing on stability and squad continuity as the club prepares for a new era under Marco Silva.
Although Silva’s appointment has yet to be officially confirmed, the club’s football department continues to move forward with its plans. Benfica’s priority is to provide the incoming coach with a strong and competitive squad while avoiding a major overhaul during a crucial transition period.
The Lisbon giants are expected to allow departures for players who have not established themselves as undisputed starters, particularly when attractive offers arrive. One of the first significant deals appears to involve Sidny Lopes Cabral, who joined Benfica from Estrela da Amadora earlier this year. The versatile full-back and winger is reportedly close to a move to Trabzonspor in a deal worth €10 million, with an additional €2 million in performance-related bonuses.
While Benfica remain open to selected sales, the club's main objective is to retain its most influential players. With the season starting earlier than usual, maintaining the core of the squad has become a strategic priority.
Preseason preparations are scheduled to begin on June 25, while Benfica's first official match of the campaign, in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, is set for July 23. As a result, club officials are keen to avoid losing key players during this important period.
Several of Benfica’s standout performers, including Pavlidis, Richard RĂos, Aursnes, Dedic, and Schjelderup, are viewed as essential components of the project. The club is only expected to consider their departures if extraordinary offers are received.
Reports indicate that Benfica value Pavlidis at no less than €50 million, while Schjelderup would only be allowed to leave for offers exceeding €40 million. These figures reflect the club’s determination to protect its most valuable assets and maintain a competitive foundation for the new season.
Despite finishing third in the league during the 2025/26 campaign, Benfica ended the championship without suffering a defeat, a statistic that has strengthened the belief within the club that the current squad remains highly competitive.
The strategy for the coming months is therefore clear: preserve the team's backbone, introduce targeted reinforcements, and ensure continuity under a new coaching staff.
One area that has already been identified for strengthening is central defense. The departure of Nicolás Otamendi following the expiration of his contract, combined with Tomás AraĂşjo’s temporary absence due to international commitments at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has created a gap that Benfica are eager to fill.
With careful planning and a focus on long-term stability, Benfica hope to build a squad capable of competing for domestic and European success throughout the 2026/27 season.
