Benfica Women Part Ways With Five Players as Squad Reshaping Continues

Benfica Women have confirmed the departure of five players whose contracts have come to an end, marking another step in the club’s squad restructuring ahead of the new season.

The players leaving the Lisbon club are Letícia Almeida, Marta Salvador, Zoe Matthews, Daniela Areia Santos, and Carolina Ferreira. Benfica expressed its gratitude to all five athletes for their commitment and contributions during their time with the team.

Midfielder Letícia Almeida, 21, spent three seasons with Benfica and made 43 appearances, scoring one goal. During her time at the club, she played an important role in the squad's domestic campaigns and continued her development within one of Portugal’s leading women’s football programs.

Right-back Marta Salvador, 22, also departs after making five appearances for Benfica’s senior women’s team. Although her opportunities were limited, she remained part of the club’s long-term project and gained valuable experience at the highest level.

American youngster Zoe Matthews, 19, leaves Benfica following the end of her loan spell from Houston Dash. The club indicated that her departure is related to medical circumstances, bringing an early conclusion to her time in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Daniela Areia Santos, 22, and Carolina Ferreira, 21, will also leave Benfica. Both players spent the season on loan at Valadares Gaia, where they continued their development through regular first-team football.

As Benfica prepare for another competitive season, the departures create room for potential new arrivals and strategic changes within the squad. The club thanked all five players for their professionalism and wished them success in the next stage of their careers.

The exits reflect the ongoing evolution of Benfica Women, who remain focused on maintaining their position among the strongest teams in Portuguese women's football.
