AC Milan has reportedly reached a full agreement with Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, who is set to become the club’s next head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 41-year-old manager has agreed to a two-year contract running until 2028, with an option for an additional season. Amorim is now waiting for final approval from Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and the RedBird Capital group before traveling to Italy to sign his contract and begin work at San Siro.
Milan had also seriously considered Matthias Jaissle, who recently guided Al Ahli to Asian success. However, Amorim's status as a free agent proved decisive, while Jaissle would have required compensation to leave the Saudi club.
The appointment marks a significant step in Milan's rebuilding project following the departure of Massimiliano Allegri. The Rossoneri believe Amorim's modern tactical approach and track record of developing young players make him the ideal candidate to lead the club into a new era.
Alongside the coaching change, Milan is also preparing a major restructuring of its executive leadership. The club is expected to appoint Markus Krösche, currently of Eintracht Frankfurt, as its new chief executive. Krösche is likely to be joined by sporting director Timmo Hardung as part of the new management team.
Another candidate considered for the role was Devin Özek, currently linked with Fenerbahçe and previously recognized for his recruitment work at Bayer Leverkusen during the club's historic Bundesliga-winning campaign under Xabi Alonso.
Former candidate Ralf Rangnick is no longer in contention after deciding to extend his stay with the Austria national team, reportedly citing concerns about a lack of clarity regarding Milan's long-term project.
If the final approval arrives as expected, Ruben Amorim will soon begin a new chapter in Italian football, taking charge of one of Europe's most iconic clubs and one of the biggest rebuilding projects in Serie A.
