Greek full-back could leave Alvalade during the summer transfer window
Sporting CP defender Georgios Vagiannidis is attracting growing interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with Everton and Villarreal both monitoring the situation of the Greek full-back.
Despite expressing a desire to remain at Sporting and fight for his place, the 24-year-old’s future at Alvalade remains uncertain after an inconsistent debut season with the Portuguese champions.
Vagiannidis made 32 appearances during the campaign, but his performances reportedly failed to fully convince Sporting’s coaching staff and sporting structure. As a result, the club are open to listening to offers, particularly if they can recover a significant part of the investment made to sign the player last summer.
Sporting willing to consider offers
The Greek international joined Sporting from Panathinaikos for around €13 million and still maintains a solid reputation in the European market.
According to information obtained by A BOLA, several clubs have already made enquiries regarding the conditions required to sign the defender during this transfer window.
A return to the Greek league had previously been considered, but Vagiannidis reportedly rejected that possibility. The player’s priority remains either establishing himself at Sporting or moving to another highly competitive European league.
Everton and Villarreal keeping close watch
Although Sporting have not yet received any official offers, Everton and Villarreal are both paying close attention to the situation.
Interestingly, both clubs had already followed Vagiannidis before his transfer to Sporting and continue to view the defender as a player with strong potential.
The Greek full-back is currently valued at around €10 million, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks as the transfer market intensifies.
