Luis Enrique previews Champions League final: “I have great affection for Arteta, but…”

PSG are through to another UEFA Champions League final after eliminating Bayern Munich in a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena, securing their place in Budapest. After the match, head coach Luis Enrique highlighted the significance of the achievement and the difficulty of overcoming such a strong opponent.

“If you think about coming here to play a match like this… they only lost three games all season. We remembered that we had already beaten them in Paris. We are not used to defending, but we did it like angels. We deserved to go through,” he said.

The Spanish coach avoided singling out individuals, although he praised Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s performance. “It would be unfair to individualize. Kvara was at a very high level… but it is interesting that we couldn’t repeat last year’s final starting XI due to injuries. That also shows what kind of team we are,” he added.

Luis Enrique also underlined PSG’s demanding path to the final. “We had the worst possible group stage draw, as always. And now we are in another final, something historic for the club.”

Looking ahead to the final against Arsenal, he spoke warmly about his former teammate Mikel Arteta. “I have a lot of affection for Mikelito, we were teammates at Barcelona. He has built a great team. It will be difficult, but we trust our style of play and what we can achieve. We want to keep making history.”
