João Neves: “We are the best team in the world”

João Neves expressed his joy after Paris Saint-Germain secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the second consecutive season. Following a 5-4 victory in the first leg, PSG earned a 1-1 draw away to Bayern Munich, booking their spot in the decisive match.

After the game, the Portuguese midfielder praised both his team and their opponents. “We are very happy with what we have achieved so far. Congratulations to Bayern, they are a great team. After us, for me, they are the best team in Europe and the world. We proved, both at home and away, that we are the best team. We knew how to attack, defend, suffer, and control the game with and without the ball. That’s what a great team does,” he said.

Clearly exhausted after the intense encounter, Neves added: “It was a difficult game. I’m even too tired to speak, but I’m very happy with what we’ve done in this Champions League campaign.”

The Portuguese international also highlighted PSG’s long-term project and his role within it: “I arrived here with a very clear idea of what the club expected from me, and we are achieving that. Winning the Champions League was never the main objective, the goal was always to fight and give everything. That is the best way to reach moments like this.”

Looking ahead to the final against Arsenal, Neves expects a balanced contest: “It’s always difficult. It’s a final. Football can sometimes be unfair. You can play better or worse and still win or lose. It will be decided by details, and that’s what we will prepare for.”

He also added: “Two consecutive years in the final, whether we win or lose, we are already very happy. We are going to face one of the great teams in the world, Arsenal, and we are prepared. Our staff do a great job preparing the matches, and we trust them just as they trust us.”

Neves ended with a warning ahead of the final: “In football, it is never 100 percent certain that the best team wins, but rather the one that performs better in the details.”
