Real Madrid president praises Portuguese manager amid growing speculation
Florentino Pérez has once again fuelled speculation surrounding José Mourinho and a possible return for the Portuguese coach to Real Madrid. Speaking to RTVE, the Real Madrid president admitted that he is still deciding who will become the club’s next manager and openly praised the current Benfica head coach.
“I am thinking about who the coach will be. I have one or two names in mind. Mourinho is a good manager. I will not announce anything because I have not spoken to him yet,” Florentino said, as rumours linking the Portuguese tactician with a return to the Santiago Bernabéu continue to intensify.
The Real Madrid president also stressed that he believes the key to bringing the Spanish giants back to the top lies mainly in the technical leadership of the team.
“A good manager will make our team work because we have the best players in the world,” he added.
Mourinho increasingly linked with Real Madrid return
José Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup during his time in the Spanish capital.
The Portuguese coach remains highly respected by many Real Madrid supporters for rebuilding the club’s competitive mentality during one of Barcelona’s most dominant eras.
With uncertainty surrounding the future of the current coaching project, Mourinho’s name has once again emerged as one of the strongest options connected with the club.
Real Madrid presidential elections approaching
Real Madrid are scheduled to hold presidential elections on 7 June 2026. Florentino Pérez is once again standing as a candidate and will face businessman Enrique Riquelme.
Riquelme has already publicly stated that he does not agree with the possible appointment of the Portuguese manager, adding another layer of intrigue to the debate surrounding the future of the club’s bench.
