The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team dominated the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with Kimi Antonelli taking victory after a dramatic race that saw teammate George Russell retire from the lead due to a power unit failure.
Russell had started from pole position and was locked in a tight battle at the front before his race ended on lap 30, triggering a virtual safety car. That misfortune allowed Antonelli to inherit the lead, which he managed confidently to secure another win in what has been a breakout season.
Behind him, a fierce fight for the podium unfolded between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, with Hamilton eventually finishing second after a decisive late move. Verstappen completed the podium in third, while Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc rounded out the top positions.
The race was full of incidents and retirements, but Antonelli once again demonstrated consistency and control, extending his strong run in the championship and strengthening Mercedes’ dominance in the 2026 season.
